Ursuline Arts Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
LOUISVILLE, Ky (January 14, 2010) – The lights dimmed and the stage was set for the ribbon cutting ceremony in celebration of the Ursuline Arts Center opening on the evening of January 14, 2010 after an 18-month renovation and expansion. As the crowd of donors and arts patrons gathered in the concession area, the Sacred Heart Academy Madrigal Choir descended the staircase singing “welcome here as we open our doors.” Sister Martha Jacob, member of the Ursuline Leadership, gave the opening prayer offering thanks to all the actors, singers, and artists. Then in a style fit for the stage, the curtain was drawn back to reveal central figures in the renovation process, including the members of the Ursuline Leadership, behind the red ribbon. After a dramatic drum roll the ribbon was cut and the new facility was officially opened.

Marian Home Move
LOUISVILLE, Ky (January 11, 2010) - During the first full week of January 2010, Marian Home residents moved to Mercy Sacred Heart Village (MSHV). The Ursuline Sisters and Marian Home staff organized the move in the months leading up to the week long endeavor. As part of the emotional undertaking, they provided a prayer service for each Ursuline Sister and lay resident who left in honor of their time together.
Once at Mercy Sacred Heart Village, a room was set aside to help each new resident through the admissions process. At the same time, movers were packing up their old rooms at Marian Home and moving all their furniture, clothing, and additional items into new rooms at MSHV. In total, 57 rooms were moved from Monday, January 4, and Friday, January 8.
On Monday, January 11, four Ursuline Sisters from the Motherhouse also made the move and joined the other sisters now living at MSHV in what was dubbed the "Marian Community." As of this writing, about 40 Ursuline Sisters are living in the Marian Community at Mercy Sacred Heart Village. Despite the massive undertaking of moving and closing down a nursing facility such as Marian Home, Administrator Kim Thieneman said things went extremely smooth without any major problems.
“There were little things that happened like needing to find a coat or extra warm clothes at the last minute, but, overall, it went really well," Thieneman said. "I think everybody worked well together, but we are like family. We know how to work together.”

30th Anniversary Card Party a Success!
LOUISVILLE, Ky (November 30, 2009) - More than 300 people filled the Sacred Heart Gym on Saturday, November 28, to take part in the 30th anniversary of the “Ursuline Sisters’ Card Party: A Day of Family Fun and Games.” The event featured hundreds of raffle prizes, a white elephant sale, concessions, and, for the first time, a children’s area.
The Card Party is an opportunity for the community to give back to the sisters who have spent their lives in ministry working with the poor, providing spiritual guidance, educating children, and much more. All proceeds from the Card Party are used for the care and needs of the senior Ursuline Sisters.
Sister Laurana Burke won one of the top prizes. She walked away with a basket of donated gift certificates worth a whopping $400. Volunteer Mary Ann Dalton, who spent weeks hand painting the complimentary glass table prizes given out at the Card Party, won the 50/50 cash pot worth more than $500!
Volunteer Mary Ann Dalton (center) was in shock when she learned her name had been drawn for the 50/50 cash pot prize.
Congratulations to all the winners who left with one or more of the hundreds of prizes, and many thanks to all the volunteers who made this important and fun event possible!
