July 28 is Independence Day for Peru. The day is also known as ‘Fiestas Patrias’ in Peru. This holiday is always celebrated on July 28 and marks the declaration of independence from Spain in 1821.
Sister Yuli Oncihuay invites you to enjoy a poem, “Danza mi pais” and these photos from Santa Angela Merici school. As Sr. Yuli says, “Today, we all say: ‘Que viva el Peru Amigas y Amigos’ (Long live Peru)!”#QueVivaElPeru
In English:
Dance my country
I live in a wonderful country, full of
wealth and will, God painted my soul white and red
and I wouldn’t trade this place for anything.
My people are brave and generous, poor
but rich in dignity and neither suffering
nor anger have made them stop dancing.
AND DANCE, DANCE, DANCE WITH YOUR SORROWS,
WITH YOUR JOY, WITH YOUR WALK,
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE, DANCE BECAUSE YOU EXPECT THE GOD OF LIFE WILL FREE YOU.
If you are going to live in other lands, tell them what IS really happening here, tell them that
the hatred and misery have not been able to
to break us.
Speak of all the good people who have given
their lives for peace and that, after their deaths,
those who remain have continue to unite.
